Is your church looking for books to encourage your young people? It’s been a tough year for our children/teens, and they need all the encouragement they can get. Stories are a great way to bring fun, life, light and hope into their lives. All our books are great for prizes and presentations, or just a gift to say your church cares, to children you’ve been supporting over the last year or so (or you haven’t been able to support because of restrictions).
For those of you who are new to Dernier, all our books are chapter books, and are suitable from ages 6 – Young Adult. We do have discounts for churches, so please contact us if you need more info.
All our books are chosen for their biblically accurate content, thrilling stories, engaging characters and exciting plots. They do not necessarily end with ‘happy ever after’, but always with hope. They deal with all sorts of topics. Some are fantasy. Some are gripping dramas. Some are set in the future; some in the past. Some are set in the UK; some in other countries. All are fun!
Jesus told stories, because story is the most powerful tool there is to touch our thoughts and our hearts. Stories allow us to think over issues in safety, and come to our own decisions. Stories don’t judge us, make us feel guilty, or push us into things. We can read them at our own pace and in our own time. Books are a non-threatening gift, and can become friends that can be read over and over again.
With your gift, readers can join the characters as they fly to faraway places, solve crimes, meet amazing people, defeat evil, travel back in time, catch the spies, escape to safety, beat the bullies… They can also learn that they have a Father in heaven who cares for them, that God answers prayer, that he has a plan for them, that they are unique and beautiful, that their life has meaning – that it’s great to be a Christian!
It’s time to sow some good seeds – who knows what might grow from your priceless gift to the young people of your community?
You can, of course, order all Dernier books from your favourite bookstore, or from here on our website.
Oliver’s Secret
We now have the illustrations for Oliver’s Secret, by Eleanor Watkins, so typesetting is underway! I can now reveal the final cover… drum roll…
Isn’t Oliver gorgeous? 🙂 And here’s one of the illustrations, by Josh Williams:
This story is about seven-year-old Clare, who moves from China to England with her English dad, Chinese mum and baby brother. At first Clare is lonely, but there are answers to prayer – some of which are rather surprising! This is the perfect story for family reading and for new readers who like a few pictures, a simple page layout and large, clear (dyslexia friendly) type. If you enjoyed Nobody’s Dog, you will love this one! If you haven’t yet got your copy of Nobody’s Dog for your collection, you can order it here or from your favourite store.
Quick Tip – Bargain Book!
I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but some bookshops have Year 0033 on special offer right now – cheaper than our own website! So if you wanted to get a few copies for your young people for summer reading, as ‘well done’ presents for exam results, for students going off to uni or just to put away for birthday gifts (I’m not going to say Christmas!)… now’s your chance. 🙂
This book is selling really well – please pray for the young people who are reading it. It brings a message of hope despite all the trials and difficulties that come from the past to haunt us; from the present to bring us down; or from the future to steal our hope.
Here’s a review from Amazon (reviews are currently 79% 5* and 29% 4*):
“A gripping read, so many questions along the way. Twists and turns kept me up late at night, and a nail biting ending meant I didn’t get to sleep till the early hours. Dystopian fiction with a God-centred message and believable, fallible characters.” – Joy Vee
If you want to try before you buy, you can read the first chapter on our website here. Then hop on over to your local Christian bookshop and see if you can get it a bit cheaper – useful if you want to buy several copies for your young people – and it will help the bookshops, too!
Gift Cards
If you’re not sure which book to buy for a nephew, niece or godchild, you can now buy a Gift Card! You buy the card (from £6) – and your loved one can then choose their own book. We hope this will help save you that awful dilemma when you just don’t know which one to choose – and it’s exciting to be able to choose your own book. I remember the joy of receiving Book Tokens as a child and choosing in the bookshop – wonderful!
Leaflets
We have some brand new leaflets. If you’d like some to give away, to put out in your church, homeschooling group, for book bags for pupils at Christian schools… or whatever, please let me know how many you’d like and we will be delighted to send you some. Let’s get the good news out there!
Thanks so much for reading this! If there’s anything further we can help you with, please don’t hesitate to get in contact.
Every blessing,
Janet
P.S. Please forward this to your children’s and family worker, minister or other relevant person. Some churches who don’t usually give away books, might want to do so this year. It’s a unique opportunity to reach out to young people in need.
