Dear Dernier Friends,
This week is Book Week in the UK! Lots of children have gone to school dressed up in fabulous outfits, and encouraged to enjoy stories.
I went into a local school to talk to the children about writing, and faith in writing. What a lovely time we had!
I was greeted by the caretaker dressed as a wizard, the receptionist as a tiger (I guess she was going somewhere for tea!) and the class teacher was an astronaut. What fun!
All over the country schools have been celebrating this special week.
Please pray that many opportunities will come from this week, for Christian books to get into schools, and children’s hands.
If you are a school teacher/governor, or your school has links to a church/Christian school, do check out the Schools tab on our website. We offer schools who sign up discounts off books, to help them with their tight budgets.
Yay, books in Kenya!
Thank you to all who have donated books for Kenya.
Here’s a message from Dr Loise Gichuhi, from Education Bridge Africa:
“We were able to get the storybooks to a needy school that had requested them. This is a school with good infrastructure but the catchment area is an informal settlement* of Kibra. The demand for storybooks is high and we at least were able to get the latest gift copy and other remnants to make sure one class could share during the library hour.
In order to get all children access to the books, the books are preserved in the office and children are encouraged to borrow them at least twice a week. Different titles are still needed.
We appreciate your support to Education Bridge Africa as we try to meet our vision for a storybook per child in Kenya.”
* Here’s the definition of an informal settlement:
“Informal housing or informal settlement can include any form of housing, shelter, or settlement which is illegal, falls outside of government control or regulation, or is not afforded protection by the state.”
The challenges children in informal settlements face are immense. Access to books will help them to get an education, so they can get out of poverty.
Mostly we’re not allowed to share photos, but on this occasion the school is happy for us to do so… many of the schools are much more basic and overcrowded, but the children are eager to learn.
So thank you for your gift! You can be sure the books will be well loved and used, and change lives.
Books in the UK
Do the children in your neighbourhood also need books?
Easter is now fast approaching, along with the fabulous opportunity to give away Christian books to your family, church kids and any that come along to groups and clubs connected to your church…. books that speak of the life and joy and the hope we have in Christ.
A book can change a life in an instant, or it can be a vital link in a journey to life. Especially when it’s given with love. 🙂
Do let me know quickly if you need quantities of books to give away to families at your church. We have lots of lovely books to choose from!
New Books
We’ve been talking about Suspicious Deliveries for a long time – now The Treasure Hunt and Mystery in the Snow have their brand new look, it’s time to work on this third book in the series.
Here’s the cover – it’s not finalised, but pretty much there! In this story, the four intrepid detectives wonder what’s up, when a visiting neighbour is asked by his uncle to do some deliveries…
I’ll keep you in touch with what’s going on!
Once again, it’s been a delight to serve you this month, with books for your children. Every book going out has such potential, and we pray for the readers of every one.
Will be in touch again soon with more news,
Janet
